This year, we decided to mix up the holiday season slightly. For instance, last month, we had a festive “wheelchair party” celebrating Mikelle’s new red wheelchair. The evening was packed with celebration, wine, and festivities, including a social media wall.
Girls Trip and Holiday Fun
Next is a girls’ trip with Maryann and Elowen to Colorado Springs. Sleeping in big beds, playing in the snow, and seeing the magnificence of the Garden of the Gods park covered in a dusting of fresh snow captured the season’s spirit. Christmas in Color holiday lights on a warm winter night ignited the
season’s warmth. Then, a sweet holiday brunch seemed a novel way to usher in the holiday season with our wonderful community. We marvel at the beauty of this fantastic community we share with friends and family every year.
The Gift of Community
We cherish how our group of friends cheer for each person’s accomplishments, hugs away discouragement, and gently wipes away tears of frustration and sadness.
The Gathering of Friends and Family
The holiday brunch brings it all together. Friendships made over ten years ago are celebrated as we gather around the Christmas tree. For Taylor and Jay, newlyweds, we share their success and the sad passing of their favorite puppy. Kasey and 
Allison share the daily progress of updating their new home, Grandma’s home, for sixty-two years. Liz catches us up on her travel adventures, and Maryann and Mikelle set the menu and provide fun activities like decorating a gingerbread town. Keely catches everyone up on the details of her recent nuptials and a job offer to become a flight attendant. Mimosas flow, stories are told, and Mikelle ensures she has a great picture with Jay in his fun, ugly Christmas sweater.
For us, our wonderful friends are the star at the top of our Christmas tree—shining beautiful.
